CHOPIN TIME is a Theatrical Concert about the genius of the celebrated composer and the genius within us, with six scenes in six different times & places with 13 characters telling the story of one composer.
Pianist Emir Gamsız and theatre artist Ege Maltepe, who introduced the art world to the unique form of the “Theatrical Concert”, now bring their work “Chopin Time”—first performed in New York in 2016—to Istanbul.
The Turkish premiere will take place at Süreyya Opera House, with a performance built around the timeless music of the poet of the piano, Frédéric Chopin. In this innovative form, theatre scenes and concert excerpts are presented not simultaneously but in relation to one another, creating a structure that portrays the composer’s impact on people across six different times and places, both past and future.
The concert program, interwoven with these theatrical scenes, features some of Chopin’s most beloved works: from the “Farewell” Polonaise to the final Mazurka, from the “Peace” Nocturne to the “Sorrow” and “Revolutionary” Études, from the “Raindrop” Prelude to the Fourth Ballade.
The performance lasts approximately 150 minutes including an intermission.
Chopin Time is a production of Jeux d’Art and Bach Café.
First premiered in New York in 2016 under the title Genius Chopin, the theatrical concert will be staged in Istanbul during the 2024–25 season at Süreyya Opera House.
